Job Title: Managing Editor – The Journal of the Academy of Doctorally Prepared Nurses

Position Summary:
The managing editor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Journal of the Academy of Doctorally Prepared Nurses, a professional peer-reviewed journal. This role ensures the timely, accurate, and ethical publication of high-quality scholarly content. The managing editor collaborates with the editorial board, peer reviewers, authors, and production staff to manage the editorial workflow from manuscript submission through publication.
Key Responsibilities:
- Editorial Management:
- Manage manuscript submission, peer review, and editorial decision processes using the journal’s online submission system (e.g., ScholarOne, Editorial Manager).
- Serve as the primary point of contact for authors, reviewers, and editors regarding manuscript status and policies.
- Ensure timely turnaround of manuscripts through all stages of review and production.
- Content Quality & Integrity:
- Maintain rigorous editorial standards and enforce ethical publishing guidelines (e.g., COPE, ICMJE).
- Coordinate plagiarism checks and ensure adherence to the journal’s style and formatting guidelines.
- Production Oversight:
- Liaise with copy editors, typesetters, and production teams to ensure timely publication of accepted manuscripts.
- Review proofs for accuracy and consistency.
- Editorial Planning & Strategy:
- Assist in developing thematic issues, special collections, and content strategy in alignment with the journal’s scope and impact goals.
- Monitor trends and metrics to support journal growth, including citation impact and reader engagement.
- Team Coordination:
- Coordinate editorial board meetings and maintain communication with board members.
- Train and supervise editorial assistants or interns as needed.
Qualifications:
- A doctoral degree in nursing is preferred; a master’s degree with relevant experience is considered.
- 3–5 years of editorial experience, ideally in academic publishing or scholarly journals.
- Familiarity with peer-review platforms (e.g., ScholarOne, Editorial Manager).
- Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Knowledge of publishing ethics and best practices.
- Experience with XML, HTML, or production workflows is a plus.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with editorial boards or scholarly societies.
- Familiarity with open access and evolving journal publishing models.
- Proficiency in tools like Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and reference managers (e.g., EndNote, Zotero).
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn Gavity Forms and Gravity Kit as a platform to develop and produce this journal.
Work Environment:
This position is fully remote, yet retreats and face-to-face meetings may be a part of the process in the short term and long term. Periodic travel may be required for editorial meetings or conferences.
