Position Summary:

The Associate Editor for Social Media is responsible for managing the online presence of the Journal of the Academy of Doctorally Prepared Nurses across various social media platforms. This role focuses on promoting published content, increasing engagement with the academic community, and enhancing the journal’s visibility, reputation, and readership. The Associate Editor works closely with the editorial and communications teams to translate complex scholarly work into accessible and engaging content tailored for social platforms.


Key Responsibilities:

Social Media Strategy & Execution:

  • Develop and implement a social media strategy aligned with the journal’s editorial goals and branding.
  • Manage and grow the journal’s presence on platforms such as X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and others as appropriate.
  • Plan and schedule posts promoting new articles, special issues, calls for papers, author spotlights, and events.

Content Creation & Curation:

  • Create engaging, platform-specific content, including graphics, video clips, summaries, and infographics, to highlight published manuscripts.
  • Translate academic findings into accessible, audience-friendly messages without compromising scientific integrity.
  • Collaborate with authors and editors to amplify their contributions through coordinated social media campaigns.

Community Engagement:

  • Monitor and respond to interactions on journal social accounts.
  • Engage with the broader scholarly community, including researchers, institutions, and partner organizations.
  • Promote discussions around key issues and emerging research within the journal’s field.

Performance Analysis:

  • Track and report on social media metrics (e.g., engagement, impressions, follower growth).
  • Use data to refine strategy, optimize content, and inform editorial outreach efforts.
  • Monitor trends and best practices in digital engagement within academic publishing.

Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree in nursing is preferred, yet a master’s or bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related discipline is acceptable; an academic or scientific background is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in social media management, preferably in academic publishing, science communication, or nonprofit organizations.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for various platforms and audiences.
  • Familiarity with scholarly publishing and the peer-review process.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with tools such as Canva, Hootsuite, Buffer, or similar.
  • Knowledge of SEO, analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, native platform insights), and altmetrics.
  • Ability to interpret academic content and translate it into compelling visual and written narratives.
  • Experience collaborating with editorial teams, authors, or academic institutions.

Work Environment:

This position is fully remote, yet retreats and face-to-face meetings may be a part of the process in the short term and long term. Periodic travel may be required for editorial meetings or conferences.
