Job Title: Guest Editor

Position Summary:
The guest editor is invited to curate and oversee the editorial process for a special issue or thematic section of the Journal of the Academy of Doctorally Prepared Nurses. This individual brings subject-matter expertise and academic leadership to help the journal spotlight emerging trends, interdisciplinary perspectives, or timely topics in the field. The guest editor collaborates with the core editorial team to solicit high-quality submissions, manage peer review, and ensure content meets the journal’s standards of scholarly excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Development:
- Propose a special issue topic or thematic focus in consultation with the editor-in-chief.
- Develop a call for papers (CFP) and contribute to its dissemination through academic networks, conferences, and social media.
- Identify and invite leading researchers to contribute original articles, reviews, or commentaries.
Manuscript Management:
- Oversee the peer-review process for submissions to the special issue using the journal’s manuscript tracking system (e.g., ScholarOne, Editorial Manager).
- Assign appropriate reviewers and ensure rigorous, unbiased, and timely reviews.
- Make editorial recommendations based on reviewer feedback and scholarly merit.
- Collaborate with authors to guide revisions and ensure final submissions meet the journal’s formatting and editorial policies.
Editorial Collaboration:
- Work closely with the journal’s editorial and production teams to maintain consistent quality and workflow.
- Attend editorial meetings or planning sessions as requested.
- Submit a short editorial or introduction to the special issue, highlighting its scope, rationale, and contributions.
Qualifications:
- A terminal degree in nursing or a a relevant field.
- Recognized expertise and a strong publication record and record of service in the subject area of the special issue.
- Prior editorial or peer-review experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage academic projects and meet deadlines.
- Strong professional network within the academic or scientific community.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with manuscript submission and review systems.
- Experience organizing academic symposia, workshops, or conference sessions.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
Term & Expectations:
- The guest editor role is typically limited to the duration of a special issue project.
- A clear timeline will be established in advance, including submission deadlines, peer review periods, and publication dates.
- The guest editor is expected to uphold the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical editorial practices (e.g., COPE guidelines).
Work Environment:
This position is fully remote, yet retreats and face-to-face meetings may be a part of the process in the short term and long term. Periodic travel may be required for editorial meetings or conferences.
