About the Journal

The Academy and the Journal celebrate the diverse talents of doctoral-prepared nurses who work in concert to improve healthcare delivery outcomes locally, nationally, and internationally. The journal is the vehicle to disseminate the work products of the Academy of Doctoral Prepared Nurses and publish peer-reviewed manuscripts that demonstrate efforts to improve healthcare outcome.  


Position Summary

The Editor-in-Chief (EIC) is the senior editorial leader of the journal and is responsible for setting and maintaining the academic and ethical standards of the publication. The EIC oversees all editorial processes, ensures timely and rigorous peer review, and leads the strategic direction of the journal in collaboration with the publisher and editorial board. This role is critical to ensuring the journal remains a respected source of scholarly and professional knowledge in its field.


Key Responsibilities

  • Editorial Oversight
    • Manage the peer review process and ensure decisions are fair, timely, and based on scholarly merit.
    • Oversee manuscript workflows from submission to publication.
    • Ensure compliance with ethical publishing standards (e.g., COPE, ICMJE).
    • Maintain and improve the quality, relevance, and impact of the journal.
  • Strategic Leadership
    • Set and execute the journal’s editorial strategy and vision.
    • Monitor trends in the field and adapt editorial policies accordingly.
    • Identify opportunities for special issues, editorials, or themed collections.
  • Team Management
    • Recruit, train, and manage associate editors, reviewers, and editorial board members.
    • Facilitate regular communication and meetings with the editorial board.
    • Foster an inclusive, collaborative editorial environment.
  • Outreach and Promotion
    • Serve as the public face of the journal to authors, reviewers, and readers.
    • Collaborate with the publisher on marketing, outreach, and indexing strategies.
    • Attend and represent the journal at relevant conferences and symposia.
  • Performance and Metrics
    • Monitor journal performance indicators (e.g., citation metrics, review turnaround time).
    • Recommend strategies to enhance visibility, citations, and readership.

Qualifications

  • A terminal degree in nursing.
  • Established record of scholarly or professional publication and professional service.
  • Prior editorial experience, ideally as an associate editor or editorial board member.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to ethical standards and transparency in research publishing.
  • Ability to dedicate consistent time and attention to the role.

Term and Compensation

  • Term: 2-year renewable term
  • Compensation: Initially Non-compensated with institutional support
